Most of visitors want to see also the most famous square, market and the tree in the Old Town Square of Prague. This year the tree was donated by one family from the townlet Pecka, situated about 100 km NE from Prague. It was cut on 20 November and sent to Prague. There was the tradition of lighting of the tree by the mayor of Prague. The city has changed the strategy and the visitors can see its festive lighting every day at 5:30, 6:30, 7:30 and 8:30. It is about 10 minute performance of lighting accompanied by the music. One of the best places to see it is from Old Town City hall tower.
Typical gifts are Czech gingerbread, ceramic, glass product, advent wreath, green, silver or gilded mistletoe or very popular Christmas ornaments - “vánoční ozdoby - baňky” produced in various old traditional glass manufactories in our mountains. From the refreshment the visitors can get something to warm up - “svařák” - hot wine, grog, typical rolled pastry “Trdelník”, roasted chestnuts, potato pancakes et al. But Prague also hosts the guests from Bavaria, Holland, Poland or Belgium etc. with their distinctive products.
